Hiring a Car in Europe
A lot of us travelling to Europe will find it much easier if we have access to our own car. Having the freedom of the open road and not having to rely on public transport means that we can get to see all sorts of things that we would miss out on otherwise. So if you want access to a car on a European holiday then you will have to think about car hire. Turkey, Spain, France, Cyprus, Italy or Germany are examples of places in Europe where having your own car can be a godsend.
However there are a number of things to consider when it comes to car hire abroad. The main thing to consider is whether or not you are eligible to drive in a particular country. After that there are other things that you should know in order to make the process of car hire in a foreign country that bit easier. The following are a few tips which should help to make it easier for you to hire a car when you are away from home, whether that’s car hire Turkey, Spain or France:
-
It is very important that you book the car well in advance to make sure you get the best deals and so that you have more choice.
-
Have a look at price comparison websites to compare car rental deals from a number of different companies. Make sure you are comparing like for like by looking for prices for the same car for the same dates.
-
If you can pay for the car before you head off on your holiday then this might be preferable as you could find that the price goes up because of exchange rates. At least if you pay in advance you will have that expense out of the way and you won’t have to worry about the price changing.
-
Before you agree to anything, find out if there are any hidden charges such as going over the mileage allowance or charges for a weekend pick up or drop off. Find out what time they expect the car to be dropped off so that you are not charged for an extra day just for going over the expected time by an hour or so.
-
Choose a car similar to the one that you normally drive when you are at home. There is no point in picking a totally unfamiliar car no matter how tempted you might be. The reason for this is that you will find it safer to drive a car that you are familiar with. You are going to find it strange enough to drive in a country that you are not familiar with so make sure you know what you are doing with the car.
